A defining feature of the Lacebark building designed by Smart Design Studio is coming to life within Stage 1 of Mulpha’s carbon zero Norwest Quarter, thanks to some very handy pizza cutting!
The areas known as the ‘drums’ – set to house both retail tenancies and a residents’ lounge when complete – feature bespoke off-form concrete soffits which are both curved and raked. Due to their complex nature, the formwork must be constructed in a very unique way with each piece of ply cut into what the team has affectionately termed ‘pizza slices’!
With meticulous care, the form workers have pieced together the ply slices, ensuring all panels fit together without gaps, with silicone added as an added precaution to minimise the risk of any concrete slurry sneaking through.
The concrete for the first two levels has now been poured, and our team is looking forward to seeing the unique features come to life.
